Gun Drilling Lubricants

Gun drilling places several demands on the lubricant used.

Lubricant must be of a low viscosity and good lubricity in order to freely flow the chips away from the workface.

It must contain an EP additive(s) to cause the chips to become brittle and break freely, to avoid plugging of the flute of the gun drill.

It must contain possess good anti-wear additives to protect the face, lands and flanks of the tool.

The lubricant must resist oxidation so as to avoid the formation of gummy residues over time.

Operator acceptance of the product is also essential. in terms of odor and mildness on skin that may be contacted.
